Print features in the Riverwest Currents

The Riverwest Currents is the monthly community newspaper serving the Riverwest neighborhood in Milwaukee. Here are several news features I wrote for the Currents. Click headlines to read the full story.

Activists or Heretics? Call to Action Conference for Progressive Catholics.”  A feature story covering the National Call to Action Conference, an annual gathering of “faithfully dissenting” Roman Catholics, some of whom face threats of excommunication for taking actions contradictory to the Catholic hierarchy, such as participating in secret ordinations of woman priests and espousing messages of tolerance toward homosexuality and birth control.  Published December 2006.

Midterm Election Roundup.” A by-the-numbers narrative of how Riverwesters voted in the 2006 midterm elections.  Published December 2006.

Reservoir Becomes a Park.” A feature-length synopsis of the City of Milwaukee’s ongoing plan to transform an old water holding facility into recreational green space in Riverwest.  Published February 2007.

New Urbanism on Downer: Ready or Not, Here It Comes.”  Plans to construct a high-rise condo on Downer Ave. near the UW-Milwaukee campus draws the ire of nearby residents.  Published March 2007.
